High cholesterol is hereditary but becomes dangerous when we add onto what we already have in our bodies. Our bodies produce all the cholesterol we need. Our bodies make our own cholesterol to coat all of our cells, our nerves and help with producing some hormones. There is no dietary requirement for cholesterol, because our own bodies make all we will ever need. Even if we do not consume any cholesterol (the only source of cholesterol is animal foods) and eat a 100% plant based diet (plants do not have cholesterol), you are still susceptible to higher levels of cholesterol if you inherited the trait from your parents. My mom had deadly high cholesterol, and at 59 she went to a 100% plant based diet. Without using any meds she is healthy again, and I get to spend more years with my wonderful mother. She's hiking and skiing with me again at 66. I don't like seeing people sick because of what they put in their body.... what we are told is healthy. It's every bit political as anything else.

Some folks have high cholesterol even doing everything right. It is supposedly hereditary. I have eaten "right" my whole life and still do and I am on cholesterol meds.
