RE: [CHICKENS-101] Confused

Well I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's unusual and it's likely the 'cross' part of your chicken that is causing the "not good" mothering.  Silkies are pretty much  BORN to be good mamas.  My first time mama Silkie has done an excellent job of caring for her chicks.  My young NN Silkie cared for a younger chick before she herself was even grown.
I think it's that 'other part' of her that's causing the confusion.

If shes young they are not good mommas. It takes a few go arounds before they become good moms.I have a silkie cross named chickie who is not a very good mom. I have to rescue her chicks all the time. I'm just saying that young hens are confused,

Christi, Silkies should be penned not allowed to run around where ever they want.  Especially since your coop is not home.  She may have been lost and came home when she heard the other birds.  Or maybe she went broody, carried eggs off, and made a nest.  Where are your pictures?
