Shelley,
I feed my chickens layer crumble, cracked corn, scratch grain, veggies/fruit (they love squash & tomatoes!), scrambled eggs with shell, oatmeal... and more recently, table scraps including meat. Eek! I have been very anti-meat until this year. With a yard full of molters, protein is a must!! I rarely feed bread, but when I do it's whole grain.
I don't feed anything with lots of salt or sugar (store bought pasta sauce/salsa/salad dressing), no potatoes or onions and I only feed garlic when I'm sneezy because I assume they are in danger of catching colds too. ;) If they sneeze (god forbid), I boil some water with onion & garlic...then I remove the onion & garlic, allow the water to cool & give it to the chicken in hospital...I have yet to have a chicken turn their nose up - and it's amazing how well this helps!! I got the 'recipe' from The Chicken Health Handbook. LOL!
