Couldn't agree more. I have a 5 and 9 year old and they are forbidden to chase the chickens. They never have, we just made it a rule from the get go. We take chairs into the pen every day and sit with the chickens just talking to them and within a matter of minutes they are jumping into our laps for attention. Except for one who has a little attitude but I adopted her and don't think she was held much.

They are so funny though, they see me coming and they all run to me LOL
