[CHICKENS-101] washing chickens IS so much fun

Hi Susan F, I had never washed a chicken before & was going to ask Cathryn to get her dh to record her washing a chook, then thought. Why would I bother Cath to do that when she already has more than enough on her plate, apart from recovering from her heart procedure! ie: Worrying about poor flora, Making sure her chickens are being looked after, especially Blue boy (who is recovering from fly strike) etc etc.
So I decided to go on you-tube & on this site I found a good one of what sounded like a young girls voice ( did not show the girls face) She made it look so easy!
I thought if that young girl can do it I most certainly can.
I have had 6 chooks for over a year now, & they are 1) going through a mault & 2) looking really dirty! Not through lack of good dust bathing areas. One of my 2 white ones with black necks, Sussex stars was particularily bad so she got chosen,
Well I got nice & wet. (seemed like I was washing Jack the scardycat dog!) & could not get a good lather up but you should have seen that first bowl of water! Absolutely filthy. Then I rinsed her off in the clean bowl of water.
She looked cleaner, but not perfect. Never mind, cleaner's good.
Then I carefully towelled her dryish.
In the video on you tube, the girl blow dried her chook & said chickens liked it! Yeah right, I thought to myself. You haven't got my chooks.
So I put her down on the grass to enjoy drying in the sunshine.
However within a minute she started shaking & that scared me into action.
I managed to catch her fairly easy considering she had not really enjoyed the experience of being washed. Then took her upstairs to blow dry her expecting a right scene of flying feathers etc, etc.
Well to my dismay she just sat there on my lap letting me do it. I blow dried her completely dry & she loved it. We were both really relaxed & content & I think that I will not hesitate doing it again. I really did enjoy washing the chicken! lol. Jane & co.
