Re: [CHICKENS-101] My new Rowdy Girls

Yes, Anabella has beautiful feathers.  I hope she is proud of her lovely feathering.  She actually EATS the other chicken's feathers?

You have a very 'rocky' chicken yard.  Did you place the rocks/gravel there or is it a naturally occuring substance in your area?  How does this work out for the chickens feet?  They look so nice and clean.  It's not too rough on their feet?  My feather legs always have dirty feet and leg feathers from being on frequently wet dirt.  If they had gravel on their ground would their legs and feathers be cleaner?

I posted them in the photo section in an album called Maureen's new Rowdy Girls, but I'm also putting the pics right in the e-mail for those who can see them.

I think Annabelle is especially beautiful with her gold-laced white feathers, and her green legs!  I'm guessing she has either Buff Orp or "golden comet" production bird mixed with Ameraucana or Easter Egger.

I need to get a better shot of Hermione, but at least you can see her beard.  Actually, I fear she might be a he -- larger comb, upright posture, suspiciously pointy hackle feathers... if he's a he, I'll call him Arnold SchwarzenEasteregger.  Hah, hah!  Actually, if he's a he, I'll probably take him back to the seller and swap him out for a pullet.  Oh, and in this pic, Annabelle is poised to take a nip at poor Hermione's rump.  She seems to be obsessed with plucking feathers from the base of Hermione's tail and eating them!  <sigh> trouble already!

This is Jenny, although I tend to forget her name and call her "Rumpless", for obvious reasons.  After doing some research, I have discovered that this is supposedly a fault in all but purebred Araucanas, and disqualifies Jenny from being a true Easter Egger, at least according to the breed club folks.  But I picked her because I thought it looked so unique and funny!  She looks like a rumpless RIR to me, although she is probably a "Red Star"/production red mix.
