I use pine shavings exclusively. They are very absorbent. I have heard that cedar shavings are not supposed to be good for chickens, but I am not sure why. People have reported that hay gets wet really fast. Kathy In a message dated 8/2/2010 12:29:35 A.M. Central Daylight Time, msdollymc@yahoo.
We are close to completing a 7x8 hen house with 8 exterior nest boxes and storage. I am trying to decide on nesting and beding materials. I can use cedar shavings, pine chips, or hay. In your experience which would be the better? Any advise appreciated.
