I raised show pigeons for several years and used lots of different bedding material. I have used the pellets that they use for horse bedding because you wet it down and it expands. No pellets to eat. I have used pine shavings, hay, cat litter and so on. What ever I used I always put down a thin layer of sulfur powder. It helps to keep the litter acidic which discourages bacteria and viruses.
