My local-ish feed store allows us to sweep the hay loading area, it is hay, straw and alfalfa broken up and mixed together, my girls love it for bedding J
They provide the brooms, we provide the bags, both benefit, and free is a great price.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] alfalfa & bedding pellets
I was reading recently that bales of alfalfa are excellent for the flock in the winter. I am wondering if my Ladies would be happy with the alfalfa cubes that they sell for horses. Have any of you tried them?
Also, have any of you tried using the pelletized bedding that they sell for horses, for your birds as nesting material?
Thanks!
