These fruit flies are from the Devil. We were being tortured with them just a little bit ago. We scrubbed the house from top to bottom, trying to figure out where they were coming from. Still they were everywhere. Then, just by chance, I was clearing some things off the porch, and A-HA! An old apple had somehow fallen between the slats and those buggers had set up a Metropolis! Everytime the back door would open, a new team flew in. Needless to say..the apple is long gone, and except for a few 'die-hards', so are the fruit flies. They can live in just about anything. And they are so 'friendly' and 'curious', doncha know! Always spinning aimlessly right in front of your face. RRRRR!

Anita--have you tried making a trap? If they are some sort of fruit flies, they'll go for this. Take a jar and put a little apple cider vinegar in the bottom--a half-inch or so should be plenty. With a rubber band, fasten a piece of plastic wrap over the mouth of the jar, not drum-head tight but rather a little "loose." Punch a small hole in the plastic wrap. Anything attracted to fruit will crawl in through the hole, but can't generally get out. I have to keep one of these traps on my kitchen counter all summer... But then my fruit flies are long gone!
