I have a friend who had a pullet wander into its yard and wouldn't leave. I was called upon to assist. When I went to visit I noticed the Pullet was sick. It was lethargic and pale and it had 'weepy' eyes. I had just had a case of Chicken Pox with 7 of my 20 laying hens. Some had it in various degrees. Some had a dry pox, with the bumps all over the face, comb and wattles, and then others had the wet pox that affects the mucus membranes which included this 'weepy' eye, looks like spit bubbles in the eye. I gave antibiotics for that because they can die from the wet pox causing upper respiratory infection and I kept them on it a full 14 days. They were great after that and all is well. Fast forward to this little pullet and im noticing the little 'spit bubbles' in the eye and I figure she has the wet pox, nothing ever broke out on her than this one symptom. I took her and have had for 11 days. She is much more active, has color of pink now in her face and she eats and drinks very regularly and seems much more in tune with her surroundings. My problem is she still has this stuff that bubbles up in the eye, she will close her eyes more than I think she should. It no longer glues the eyes shut, but we still have it. Is there something im missing as to what more I can do. We are getting near to that 14 day mark and I don't want to keep her antibiotic any more than that. Any ideas?
