Paula, Welcome! Glad you joined. your chicks need heat on a schedule under their light: first week 100-95 degrees, 2nd week 90-95 degrees, 3rd week 85-90, 4th week 80-85, and so on down. If you are in a temperate climate like mine where temps took a nose dive this week to 50 and 53, my 8 week-16 week old chicks all have heat lamps at night. I have the older chicks heat lamps on a dawn to dusk timer.
If they are the only chickens in the coop, you can put them out at 3 weeks with heat lamps.

I am new to the group and new to chickens. We have a 5 month old comet who is outside in the coop and we have 4 chicks (2 RI Reds, 1 Cinnamon Queen comet, and on black orpington. I have the chicks inside under a heat lamp. Two of the chicks are less than a week old and the other two are about 2 weeks old. How long do I keep them under the heat lamp? When do I put them out in the coop? I am sure I will have more questions but for now that is it. Thank you in advance for your help.
