I am confused. Why would the multipurpose net kill the snakes? It is easier to fence so the snakes cannot get in. There are plenty of mice and bugs outside of the chicken pens for snakes to live on.

Get yourself some plastic multipurpose net from Lowes @ $19.95 for a 50' roll and just zip tie around the perimeter of the chicken yard. Cut the zips when you have to get in and then replace when you exit. Cheap enough solution. This will kill the poisonous snakes that are eating your chicken eggs. The downside is that it also kills the beneficials as well - the ones that eat rats and other rodents. Trade off I guess. Most snake bites occur when a human is attempting to kill them so that's why the plastic netting works so well with copperheads and rattlers because they are dead by the time you find them to remove them.
