I wish people would research things a bit better and stop making wild untrue statements. It takes less than five minutes to go to the websites and look, but I guess it is much easier to climb up onto a soapbox and rave.
Animal fats and proteins, are allowed and used in animal feeds.
The higher end natural and organic feed do not contain animal byproducts but the basic feeds of many suppliers do. Blue Seal Backyard Basics and Nutrena Country Feeds brands both contain animal byproducts. I am sure there are others if one Wants to bother looking.

Unfortunately, in that race to the bottom, someone got offended over the use of animal products in feed manufacture and said "there oughtta be a law.." and then some clueless lawmakers saw fit to legislate away the use of all animal related fats and proteins in the manufacture of livestock feeds. The result of that is we end up with the crap that Purina puts in a bag and calls Layena. They market it as "Sunfresh Recipe" and "free of all animal proteins and fats" which is unnatural food for a chicken. Some animal protein sources are very appropriate and work very well in poultry feeds but they now can't be used. Fish meal is one that comes to mind and it helps greatly with the production of fertile eggs for hatching. Boosting protein levels with soy is counterproductive because soy reduces fertility.
