Re: [CHICKENS-101] HELP... I think I killed my hatching eggs

My last hatch I had the same problem and decided to go ahead with the hatch.  I was able to stabilize the temp, and kept a close eye on it.  At the end of the hatch about 1/2 of the eggs hatched and the chicks are healthy and growing.  Those waiting days were nervous days.  Do you have other eggs to put in the bator if  you throw these out?  Do you have the time to spare to just wait and see what happens?  I agree with candling the eggs but I would candle them more than once, several days apart to watch for normal growth in the egg.  A stinky egg is not fun!

Good luck,  Susan

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] HELP... I think I killed my hatching eggs

My first try and I am using an 'old style' used Hova-Bator styrofoam incubator. I had the temp stable at 100 degrees for a half a day before putting my eggs in last night. This morning it read 105. I was very worried and immediately turned it down a quarter turn but had to leave for the day. When I got back the thermometer was at 104. I finally got it back down to 100 but do you think I should go ahead and toss this batch of eggs out and start again? They haven't even been in there for 24 hours yet and I may have killed them already. Will the eggs just not develope or will they develope abnormally into something that I will need to put them down due to defects? If it's the later, I would rather toss them now before they start developing.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Jennie (in CA)
