She is absolutely correct. Possums hibernate, but so do bears. Possums are very much "warm blooded" mammals and CAN carry rabies. "Cold blooded" animals are reptiles and amphibians, such as snakes and frogs.

P. S. there is a different animal in Australia called a possum, and they are selling fur or wool or hair from it to spin. It's not the same thing at all.
