After seeing them in person that was the only method that made sense. As for the trash bags, in my money grubbing town, this year they changed to a "uniform bagging" color which was YELLOW. I think they wanted to make sure you had paid for your pickup and weren't throwing other things away..but before that I used dog food bags.
Back to the pellets, I do think though because of the water I would would for warmer weather. I think alone without the dry pine flakes it would won't work in my coop. Also I've noticed that the chickns are very adverse to change.
