It's been a long time since I was around muscovy ducks. My dad had a lot when I was a kid. This is what I remember in relation to your questions. They were in a pen, on land is where they like their house or hutch, at one time he had them using doghouses to lay in but due to predator issues he later built a 4ft by 3ft (or close to those measurements) hutch that they could be put into every night. They still layed in the doghouses and we gathered eggs. Dad had a cabinet incubator so we usually didn't let any of the birds hatch their own, too many predators out there to risk that at that time.
Best of luck!
