Lori, I had to raise the soil in my barn pens up higher than the surrounding land. It's the only way to keep the ground from being soaking wet and souring. You need to add sandy loam, sand, and or gravel to raise it up.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Suggestions
Any sugguestions on how to keep the ground dry? I have silkies and cochins and they are a horrible mess right now because of this crazy weather. So I'm wondering if there's anything that will help with the ground being soo wet, I'm gonna put straw down again but it seems like the straw is doing more harm then good because it's seems like it's holding the water if anything. Any other suggestions on how I can get the coops ground dry instead of looking like a Huge mud puddle?
