Hey my 6 yr old is signed up to get 4 meat chickens this year to show at the county fair in January! Don't know much about them other than they are a white chicken raised for meat birds and the kids get them in a couple of weeks. Was wondering if anyone had any pointers to help us?
Mainly: Is it better to put them in a cage (as in they'll gain more) or in a pen where they can run around?
Feed: what protein should I be looking for? I can just get Purina or the Dumor here, would just free feeding the chick food be enough, or is there a type of show bird feed? I showed goats and pigs all throughout school, so I know they go on a certain type of bulk up feed, but don't know if they do it for chickens or not?
