I'd go with a fenced outdoor pen with buried fencing and a good sturdy top, and the electric fencing. Air predators can pick off your chickens faster than the 4 legged predators can.

I have been reading the local paper here (anchorage daily news) they had three articles about chickens and bears. Very informative! Check out www.adn.com/ . One article was of an encounter with a grizzly in Kodiak when he was after chickens with an amazing picture. I am encouraging hubby to think of electric fencing.
