Thank heavens you took your hen in, her sour crop would have killed her quickly. May I be nosey and ask what your vet prescribed and how much? We all could learn from you and your hen.

Thank you for the quick response. We were lucky to have a vet nearby who had someone familiar with chickens in today.

He confirmed it was a case of sour crop and with a test found it was bacterial in origin. A shot and some antibiotics were prescribed. $212 for visit, rapid test, and meds. Worth it for the experience to us newbies.

Probiotics were suggested and based on our research we had already begun feeding her some of my home made kefir.

He said it could be 4 days or more until the large crop subsides.
