Re: [CHICKENS-101] chicken feed ingredients.--PROTEIN

 

I raise mealworms for my chickens, quail and pheasant -- they all love to get them as treats, they're super healthy for them (way healthier treats than most scratch grains which is mostly corn/empty calories!)  and SO easy to raise/keep.  Not so crazy :-)

Call me crazy.hahaha.but I am ordering mealworms and red wigglers to raise for my chickens.  I use to have the red wigglers for a few years for composting worms......But I decided to get them again for the chickens.  Spoiled rotten birds..

Unless chickens can get out into pasture grass where insects are plentiful, they need a source of animal protein. Just because someone decides to create a fad of vegetarian chicken feed doesn't mean that it meets all of the dietary needs of chickens.
