What state are you in?
I too have rescued dogs. Up to 7 of them. One of them has only one eye -- call her Patch. Another was puppy that I commented to the owner she was cute -- She handed the dog to me and ran. She is named Rusty. And she is a doll. I found out later that young lady couldn't afford to feed Rusty.
There are so many that you cannot save them all. Wish I could.

I would love another macaw or even two. We have one now and just love him. He was a rescue as well.
The woman we got pocohontis from was at least smart enough to realize she couldn't keep her after taking her back. She can't be ridden till she gains the weight and gets retrained. The people that bought her had their teenage daughter ride her. She would jump on spur her and make go straight off at full speed. So she doesn't even walk right.
I don't understand why people abuse animals either. We have 13 dogs at the ranch right now many can't be adopted due to abuse caused medical issues. 2 need homes as soon as I can find them one. One is a chesapeak bay retriever that someone brought he out to the desert and shot her and left her for dead. She made it to our place. Its taken 6months but she's healthy enough to be adopted now.
