Today makes day 3 that I put them out, it's been a little chilly here at night, so I've put the heat lamp out there for them. So far so good. I have read on the net that you just need to lock them in for 3 days and after that they know to go in there to sleep, then I had someone else tell me 2 weeks. SO I'm totally confused. I thought about letting them out Saturday, is that too soon?
You'll never know how strong your heart is till you learn how to forgive the one who broke it.

For the first week you should make sure they are all going into the coop to roost at night. Our hens free range and with the exception of about 4 out of 200, they all go in to the coop at sunset and the coops are locked. About 95% of them go back into the coop to lay their eggs in the nesting boxes during the day. There are a few who have other favorite spots outside to where they lay their eggs. They are always fed outside and there is no food or water in the coop which we feel discourages rats/mice.
