I just finished the first iteration of my chicken coop. The last part was installing the nesting area. You know 18 inches up off the floor, with a roost in front, 12x12 or so. 5 inch board in front to make it more "cave-like" for chicken privacy.
So there I am electric drill and electric saw making a mess and a lot of noise.
I dumped the old pine needles from the temporary nest into the new nesting box.
I couldn't believe it. Hannibelle jumped right up and within a few minutes we had our 3rd egg.
Made me feel bad that I hadn't a proper nest all this time. Poor Hanibelle. Now I gotta tell you - coming from a male, all I can equate to this to get the "feel" of it is when you have to take a dump and there's no toilet around.
So the 1 queen chicken is firmly entrenched in her built from scraps 8x4 foot palace. On to the chicken meeting of the Panhandle chicken club this Sat. to become an expert - and hopefully get more chickens. I'm liking this.
