It's just a health code. There is no odor problem, just codes. Plus in the 1800's large barns were always off from the houses. You wouldn't want a cattle farm and barn, and an egg layer barn for a 1000 hens up by your house. This used to be a very large working farm in the 1800's and early 1900's.

Oh now I realize why so many of you worry about the cold. I had an inspector on my property and they never said a word so I guess I am good. But that is why my girls are so protected.
Is there a logical reason for them to force you to make your birds live that far away? What difference does it make to them? Is it an odor problem? because I only have a few birds so that is not a problem either.
BYW.. New Jersey is expecting a snow storm tomorrow, I doubt they are right!!!
