Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Chicken feed

Well now.  I can tell you what I do and you will most likely get other messages also.  There are lots of ways to raise chicken, etc.

How much of the crumbles do you have left?  I would lessen the amount that I add to the layer mix each day until it is gone.  I don't like to waste anything.  Do you know anyone that could use what is left over?

Laying pellets are designed for pullets/hens that are ready to, or already, laying eggs.  Scratch is usually made up of corn and grains and oats.  I use it for a treat a few days a week and feed it in the winter with the laying pellets.  Corn and grains add to the internal body heat of fowl and isn't really needed in the summer when it is already so hot.

AVC is Apple Cider Vinegar and I recommend Braggs because it is natural and organic.  A slug is maybe 1/4 cup or less in a gallon of water.  I have 3 gallon containers of water around the yard that get filled daily.  I put ACV in the every other day.  It is an anti-oxident and general tonic.  I drink a glass of cold water with a spoon full of ACV every morning.  Seems to keep my tummy in order.

Hope this helps.    Susan

Hmmmm, I have three questions.

My grrrls are about four months old, they free range all day and I have been adding layer mix together with their crumbles. But the latter is medicated so should I stop with that? They, too, don't eat much feed as it's summer and there's plenty for them to eat plus kitchen scraps.

What is the difference between Layer Pellets--my is a grain mix--and scratch?

What is a slug of ACV and what's it for?

Thanks so much,

Renee in WA
