In my experience if they are under a heat lamp with room to move away from it if they become too warm, have fresh water and free-choice food, that should be all it takes - a little sugar in the water for the first day or so. Yes, keep an eye on their butts. You will easily see if their vent is clogged up and warm water/soft cloth should loosen it up and wipe it off. Sometimes you might need a manicure scissor to cut off some of it stuck to the fuzz - but usualy warm water will do it. We always feed them medicated chick-starter.
