Re: [CHICKENS-101] Incubators

The best incubator IMHO is a Silkie hen who has gone broody (which they do often). Not subject to power outages or temperature and humidity fluctuations and a lot cheaper and more fun than a Styrofoam box.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Incubators

I'm curious. What do people think are good incubators and is there a good online place to buy them?
Someone tipped me off to a company called Brinsea and they want $199 an up for a 30 egg one. Kind of defeats the purpose of getting chickens to save money.
I did find a Hovabator for about $50.
I think a lot of people in this group are like me, We want a few chickens now and then but don't want to spend massive amounts of money on something we might use once a year.
What would be a good price for a home project incubator?

I can grow fly eggs great using my garbage can or kitchen counter, why do chicken eggs have to be so difficult?
