Thanks for the chuckle.  I had the same thing happen but was so happy to see the egg it didn't matter.  They will sure tell you what they like.  If you would like to see something funny boil up some spaghetti, cool it off and throw it to them.  They go nuts!   Susan in Conyers, GA

We got our first egg today- it was right on schedule.

My husband has been agonizing over how best to fill the nesting boxes. He has each one nested differently (one is sand, one is alfalfa, one is wood chips, one is johnson grass and the last one is standard hay) so that the chickens will find one they like and be happy. The first egg was unceremoniously dumped on the ground. I don't think the chickens appreciate how concerned he has been with their comfort for the last month.
