[CHICKENS-101] Re: nite guard

Brenda,

I have my chickens in a stall in our barn and they love it. The only modification done to the stall was to screw on wood slates onto the barn doors. One that leads into the hallway of the barn and the other that leads to the 6' wire fenced courtyard. They are always tucked in at night and locked up tight. We have three dogs and they are sometimes able to slip into the courtyard, but are not able to get into the stall nor the barn. When I kept them in a 8'x10' shed, I used wood shavings for the floor(easier cleanup), but the barn has a dirt floor and I seem to like it better. I do spray the floor with a sanitizer solution after cleaning up the poop on a daily basis to try and keep bacteria and germs down. Our dirt is very light and when stirred or swept it fills the air and gets into my lungs so I am trying my best to keep things very sanitary. I guess it would help if I got a mask to filter out the dirt. LOL maybe someday I will get time to stop at Home Depot for one.

My stalls are wood slats about 5 ft tall.. and thought I'd just put chicken wire over the top.. shavings on the bottom?? The only thing is that they would have access to my garden.. instead of being fenced in my orchard.
