Re: [CHICKENS-101] Let the crowing commence

Depends on how big you want your meat chicken and/or how much/long you're willing to feed them. Cornish cross are typically butchered between 6 and 12 weeks old. Dual purpose birds take longer to reach butcher size. Due to me erroneously thinking my 2 roos were hens I now have 2 1yr old roos to butcher with my cornish cross in a week. Oh well they're nice and big now.

Okay, my oldest chicks are only about 6 weeks old, but I have one Buff Orpington roo who seems to be a bit early about learning to crow. He woke me up this morning with his first sick sounding attempts at crowing.
He's not big enough to butcher yet, so I'll have to wait a bit. At what age should meat chickens be butchered?
