I have the most phenomenal rooster. He will fight hawks and has killed a couple, although the first time it left him limping for about 7 months. Last time he just got lucky, although he lost his tail. This time I have no idea what he was fighting with since I have no other roosters, but whatever it was has put out one eye. He ran and hid for the first day or two, then when I finally seen him come out it was a nasty, nasty mess! Long story short, I penned him up seperate, but I think that there are probably two things going on. One of his legs seems to have stiffened up like he doesn't want to get up. I was wondering once this happens will he use it again? I hate to lose him as he is a very gentle giant of a rooster and so protective of his girls. He stands knee high (I am 5'9, so he is very big!) and I am wondering if this has something to do with him stiffening up? I don't know how old he is. I bought him from the feed store last Summer. The guy who sold him said that he was too much for his hens, although I am not so sure about that as I have never had a rooster who has acted more of a gentleman and my hens don't look tore up at all and I had over 150 chicks hatch this Summer (I stopped counting at 150), so he has done his job. I am just wondering if this stiffness could be because of a)disease? if so, what? b)a result of his size or age? or c)infection spreading? Anyone? Please?
Thanks
