Hi Everyone, I have mostly been a voyeur in this group. Today is my first post . I have had over the last 2 years 2 out breaks of dry and wet pox. I say this to to express my loss at what to do for a hen today and hope you can help. Having dealt with the wet and dry side of pox and how it can affect the eyes of the hen, its the only thing i have to go on for experience when i look at my almost 3 yr old hen this morning. She has been slower, napping more frequently. She has has some issues with her eggs this week. She had one stay too long in the shell gland so it came out with extra calcium deposits and discoloration and then the second egg came out right behind it with no shell because it hadnt stayed in the gland long enough. She has one eye that looks a little shriveled? I cant think of a better word. It is the only outward appearance that there is something wrong. Her comb looks good...but she is acting like an old lady. She doesnt go as high in the coop to roost anymore and of course her napping and so forth... tells me she is feeling age, though i didnt expect that. She does eat , however i dont see much drinking. I think we are going to go with a dropper to make sure she is getting water. Its very hot here in central florida. We brought her in yesterday indoors to keep an eye on her . Am i mistaking old age for an illness? Im just seeing a little something not right with her eye, the other one seems fine. No bubbling, no real weeping . Just looks a little shriveled... ? Any one that can help me talk this through and trouble shoot to make sure we are doing right by her i sure would appreciate it.
