I was thinking of trying to fill real egg shells. Blow out the egg inside and fill with something and then tape shut. Not sure what to fill them with though. Sand and then glue? Any other ideas? Something we'd probably already have on hand or can pick up easily at WM or a grocery. Maybe something that would give strength to the egg shell.

I've used the golf balls with good results, too. I've got some china eggs which also work--and I suspect my girls are sitting on antiques... Anyway, if you are "set" on *real* fakes, "china eggs" is probably what you should search for. Plastic Easter eggs with something inside to weight them a little would also work.
