Re: [CHICKENS-101] no more right to farm in Michigan

No, we did not get to vote on it. In fact our courts have been busy striking down laws that the voters have voted on in the past.  Guess voting is only a pretend voice.  Take heed, every where is the next target and everyone in every state should be writing their reps and senators telling them they support elected officials who support right to farm and labeling of GMO.

OMG!  I just saw this. What does this mean?! Did Michigan get to "vote" on this?  Not that "voting" is real, of course, but I would have thought that something local like this could have been headed off by the locals. This is really crazy.  It's something we should all be aware of, and I don't know how we can effectively fight it. Everywhere, people are buying up properties that were once small farms, and either re-building and putting several houses there, OR simply living there and not having any animals. The result is the same...We are  sweating bullets these days because a super Wal-Mart is in the process of trying to build less then a mile from our farm. Folks have been battling them for the last 7 years, but Wal Mart WILL win out, and eventually I'll have Wal Mart and all it's "friends" within walking distance. We dread the thought of having to leave all that we've built here.  I wonder if there can be a "grandfather clause", where existing farms can remain, but no new ones be built? Michigan farmers need to get some of those online petitions going.
Gads. If this can happen to Michigan, places like 'sunny California" would be the next target.  I think I will write to my congress people now.

I'll be out helping the opposition to campaign.  I just hope the bridge he wants to build that MI cannot afford that he wants to name after himself doesn't go thru, and or gets rescinded. Now my city that grew up around my farm can go after me to get rid of my chickens I have had here for over 20 years.  This place has been a farm since the late 1800's.
