There is nothing like a good dog to keep ALL "Vermin" off your property. We only have 1 small yappy dog now, that our son left to us...both our good old ranch dogs have passed on. So we feel pretty vulnerable knowing there aren't any dogs out there patrolling the grounds at 3 AM!  We don't know whether to get a couple of puppies...we dread raising puppies again....or maybe a couple of 'older' young dogs...our problem would be integrating them with the chickens and the cats and the horses.   But a couple of good dogs, that can back each other up, is really a good thing to have.

Hi Cathryn, I am thinking you need a DOG to keep those deer off of your property!  We have three English Shepherds, an Australian Shepherd, and a 12 year old German Shepherd that keep varmints out of here! They find racoons,opossums mice,moles and keep coyotes at bay too. They have all grown up with our chickens, cats and horses and love to bark at the horses to try to get them moving so they can chase them. I hate to say this because I just love the English Shepherds, but the Aussie is the girl that is so smart and responsive to commands while working.
