Re: [CHICKENS-101] new flock

I wait 3 weeks to get my pullets to lay where I want them to lay, teach them their feed, oyster shell, and water is in their coop.   If they are not laying yet I would not let them out until they have laid for at least 2 weeks in their nest boxes. Saves problems father on down the road when they know where to lay and bond with their coop.

Hi,
I pick up our pullets (7) this week. The coop and run is ready. I will eventually like to have them free-range on a part-time basis (when I am home). My question is... how long is it recommended to leave them in the coop/run so they learn that is "home" so that they will come back to the coop at dusk. We have an acre so I don't think I can herd them back.

Thanks,
Morganne
