Re: [CHICKENS-101] Another new flock question

I would go in every day at dusk and put all on the roost until all sleep on the roost, every night.  By training your flock to sleep on the roosts, their droppings will be easier for you to clean up, keep your nest boxes cleaner, and allow you to protect combs with heat during bitter cold weather (if you live in a cold area), and cool them at night when it is very hot out. (Never run a fan directly on a sleeping flock.)
If they are in the nest boxes at night, they are trying them out for feel and getting ready to lay.  Laying is a big event in their lives and laying their eggs are very important to them.  Training your pullets to lay in their nest boxes is important and why I'd keep them in until they are laying and all are laying in their boxes.  Good habits = happy owner aka chicken slave, and happier chickens.

I brought home 8 pullets and they are doing well. That evening when I went to check on them, some were in the nesting boxes and some in the corner on the floor of the coop. I picked them all up and placed them on the roosts. The next morning, they were still on the roosts so I guess they slept there all night since the droppings board was full. This morning, I checked on them just at daybreak and three were in the nesting boxes and five were on the roosts. Should I just give it time and they'll all eventually sleep on the roosts? I found an egg yesterday afternoon so I know at least one is starting to lay. Should I go out every night and place them on the roosts if they are on the floor or in the nesting boxes?
