Cassie, How kind of you to take this special rooster in. He had to have been a hand raised pet to be so tame and have a sense of what to do when. Bless your heart and your family for giving him a home! Did you name him? What color(s) is he?

I was driving down a fairly deserted mountain road near where I live, when I saw a rooster pacing back and forth in a turn out. I pulled over and said a few words to him and he scooted over to me and let me pet his back. I had an appointment so I left.
On the way back, I saw him again and knew he had been dumped off by someone so I gave him some water and left again.
After picking up some papers, I returned again and saw him and again, I stopped and chatted with him. Again, I left.
When I returned home and passed the spot he was gone.
I pulled into my house and spotted the same rooster strutting his stuff in my fenced dog area. While I was running to and from appointments, he was captured by my son and a friend after I had mentioned seeing him out there on the road. They said they pulled up with some boxes, put them on the ground and the rooster marched right into one. They said they couldn't believe it.
I sat back and watched him for a bit wondering how the heck I was going to get him out of the dog area and into the coop. I was a bit afraid to just throw him in there and was fairly nervous about the whole thing. But he was a beautiful bird and he looked just like my old rooster that I had really loved.
As I was watching him, I could hear my hens making all kinds of noise so I picked up one of my tamer girls and brought her over to see the rooster. I set her down on the ground outside the dog area and she checked him out. After a bit, I picked her up and returned her to the coop.
After a very short time, the rooster figured out how to escape the dog area and was free. Now my problem was how to catch him, but he had his own ideas.
He immediately turned around the corner and made a beeline to the coop. He promptly walked right up to the front door of the coop and pecked it once and turned to me. I started laughing and went over and opened the door. That rooster stepped up on the threshold, spread his wings and raised his head and cock a doodled doo! Then he hopped right into the coop.
Of course, I was worried for my girls, but the biggest, meanest one walked up to him and gave him a test peck. He ignored her. Another dominant girl did the same, again he ignored her.
He acted like he belonged and there was never a squabble. He immediately found a girlfriend as my lowest order chick started grooming him by running his feathers through her beak and sitting next to him.
After several days, it seems everyone is very happy with this new addition. I was worried my neighbors would be bothered by his noise, but when I called them tonight, they said they could hear him but thought he sounded cool.
So I have inadvertently adopted a beautiful new rooster who seems to have found a perfect new home for himself. I'm almost speechless at the turn of events!!
He would not have lasted a night where he was as this area is full of wildlife looking for their next meal. I consider him a very lucky bird.
