I'm hoping someone can help me w/ our approx. 7 yr old favorite hen who has been in my basement since Sunday. Her crop may be sour -- it is squishy in the morning and about the size of a clementine. She makes funny snake like head movements (this is how I discovered there was a problem). She wants to eat and is bright and cheery... However she has a small marble sized, HARD, lump in her crop which feels as hard as bone. It does not change shape and moves around as I massage her crop. She sometimes makes a squawk sound when I do this like I'm hurting her. I have tried many times to make her throw up and have only succeeded once and only about a Tbsp of egg-yokey-like liquid came up and it did NOT smell sour like I had expected. I have tried fish oil down her throat, red wine, lots of massage, scrambled eggs and plain yogurt and mash and corn as 'food'. No progress and she's still bright and hungry and yet makes the snake movements and has the squishy crop in the morning. What should I do next? Call my vet and see if she'll give me nystatin for a chicken? I'm worried about that lump and wondering if it's a tumor or something since this hen is so old.
Ideas?
Thank you so much!!
Kristen
