Re: [CHICKENS-101] Bird bugs

I do not use DE for several reasons and I know for a fact it does not work on red mites and northern mites.

Thank you all for your advice, I just wish I would have asked before I purchased the Sevin-5, oh well.
I will now look for food grade DE as well as the poultry spray.
Thanks again and Happy New Year J

BTW, not to brag, but my girls are still giving me an egg a day each J, they did taper off a bit during the cold spell.

Cheers

I have been using DE for the last 10 years with no ill effects. I mix it with playground sand for the chickens to bathe in and add to their feed once a month. Great stuff

Dr. Doug,

Personally, I keep a DE dusting tray in the coop for my girls, line their nesting boxes with DE under the shavings, and sprinkle my yard with DE after each grass cutting. With 3 dogs, 1 cat, and 6 chickens living a very rural area, I have no ticks, fleas, mites, or lice. Even ants leave after an application of DE to the yard.

In my house, I sprinkle DE around the baseboards and sprinkle in the dog beds. Once a month, I sprinkle DE in the cat and dog food as a dewormer.
