When I had to shoot a feral cat for killing chickens, I caught him in the act. He was feral though, not a pet.

For the record if a cat was going to get a chicken I imagine there would be plenty of feather evidence - after all a cat can't kill a chicken so easily as that and not leave feathers everywhere! But again, I think the cats aren't the culprit - chickens look very large to a cat and cats don't tend (neither do most mammals) to attack 'prey' larger than themselves.
