RE: Re: [CHICKENS-101] Molting

Why are they called that?  They are fed Layena feed and given scraps. They have a large yard where they eat bugs and suck. One was eating a toad the other day!  It has nothing to do with the molt?

The tiny eggs are called wind eggs, or rooster eggs. They are usually a chickens first egg or a sign that they need more protein.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Molting

I live in Buffalo, NY and am wondering when my birds will start to molt. What would some early signs be?  I have not been getting as many eggs every day and I have been getting really tiny ones more frequently-sometimes they don't have a yolk. They have not been losing feathers yet. Do all chickens molt? Do I need to give them any special care?
