Shannon, I am talking about feeding too much fat/oil to chickens. I can't remember if I was taught it in my disease classes at MSU, in my vet manuals, or internet. I fell asleep and still should be asleep. I had a family crew in and we cleaned all but 3 pens in the main barn. We washed half of the equipment, and cleaned walls, prepping them to be spray painted with a inside house paint gun. Then I had to feed and water after everyone was gone. By bedtime I could not sit, stand, or lay down with out unbearable pain. We'll finish up today. At least I will start school with my silkie barn-the old fashioned commercial layer barn I remodeled several years ago, cattle barn, and 2 chick barns CLEAN, birds powdered with organic poultry dust and show birds frontlined. May have to pick up a cane for the first week of school and borrow the school walker though.

I'm to old for yahoo info ..... i even use the politically incorrect feed that oldtimers get critized incorrectly by many (saying it was the only feed they fed)(LOL) "CORN" is -has been-and will allways be the most important contributing feed in the world(no matter how many times the politically corrects say it's candy (lol) . One just has to catch on or just miss the bus every day(corn is just a small part of the diet) they can figure out the rest of the story for themselves .
The fatter my hens are - the more delicious eggs they lay year in and year out (but who knows maybe i got the wrong kind of chickens) .
I have never seen a fat hen that did not lay her heart out ......... Now if you are talking about gut fat / heart fat such as rooster can get ....... a hen that does this is through with this egg laying business-it's over with - the party is over for her - we can turn out the lights .
As we will not need anymore egg cartons for her .
Body fittness / accumulation of body fat is nature's way of turning on the egg cycle(life is good it's time to lay) it also gives them the cushion to deal with molt and other calamities .
If we withhold this type of food and continue to feed some of this el-cheap-o store bought trash called layer pellets then We Will ForEver Have These Kinds Of Problems With Our Chickens !!
