Re: [CHICKENS-101] will they....?

Nancy, Your chicks are too young to be in with the adult chickens.  Chicks and adults are usually kept separate to allow the chicks to develop their immune systems and so they are fed separately.  I do not mix two until my chicks are full adult size.  If room will not let you, you will have to put up with the situation as it is.  Meanwhile I would put treats in the pens/yard in different and many places so there is more than plenty for all, then try to pick up your chicks.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] will they....?

Will my two flocks ever get along?
We have 10 Production Reds that we got the first part of April. The first part of June we got 20 chicks (differing varieties) from a hatchery. Moving day went well. Everyone has been together for nearly a week now. The Reds are still showing the chicks who is boss! I know it is early yet, and the little ones are still growing up, but is there hope for the future that these two flocks will be freinds? I want so very much to pick up and play with the little ones, but the Reds just won't let me!! As soon as I bend down, a Red will come up to me and scare off the chicks!!
