Re: [CHICKENS-101] Chicken Breeds--Dorkings

oh .... i was gonna ask you if you had more to sale .

I know today it's the funny thing about brown over white eggs (lol) our grandparents(i'm 69) preferred the white egg and white eggs cost more back then .
The barred Holland was created just for that market (a yard lookin chicken that laid the white egg) .

I for some reason(call it crazy if you want to) prefer white eggs .

I love the Silver/Gray Dorking and wish i could get a few , i had them years back when i had to many chickens and let them slip away (what amazed me was the amount of people down here in the woods of south Alabama that knew exactly what they were at one look .

Thanks ,
Shannon

Hi there

I am amazed by this. Dorkings while nothing like a production red, does lay rather well. About 4-5 times a week.
It really is a mixed bird i.e. cockerels make great chicken dinners, hens lay well up until moult. As for the size of
the egg, that was because they are new layers. Over time they will get better. I had them, sold them this morning

actually which is why I noticed the "old" thread, and they were easy going, pleasant birds. Actually the women who
bought the 4 of them wanted that and so I recommended them to her. I'm not getting any more because no one
wanted "white" eggs because they felt they were "store bought".

Warmly,

Lilly, USA

I have a few Silver Dorkings. Silver laced or whatever it is. I am not happy with them.

This year they started laying in the spring. The eggs are white and about 3/4 size. More like what you get in the store.
