Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Life --and death -- on the farm

Above all else , they will start laying when ready. Usually around 5-6 months.I tdepends on several factors. Slow grown or fast. What kind of feed. How much protein etc..Give them a little more time and watch for those rooster eggs.Good luck.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Life --and death -- on the farm

I can relate, I have worked with chickens, goats, rabbits and cows mostly, I only have chickens right now, but my 'main' line of work is computers, so I will be chatting with a client while fixing their computer and the subject of animals comes up, I am the same as you, we care for our animals and all, but sometimes they are destined for the freezer and yes, some people just can't handle that. but i got the most flack from a lady that just screamed at me for animal cruelty, she was wearing leather boot and vest. I asked her about it and her reply was "I didn't kill it, someone else did".
People like that should move, like to Mars :)

So, now that I vented, can I ask a question, I have 9 Rhode Island Reds, 3 are 25 weeks old and 6 are 13 weeks old, I heard that I should expect eggs by 25 weeks, any input? All of the other chickens I have had before I got already laying, so this is new ground for me.

And I also want to extend a thanks to everyone on the group for sharing.
