It's happening with coyotes, too. I live where their should be an awful lot of coyotes. Lots of food (road kill deer everywhere), lots of open spaces and lots of acreage too small to allow the discharge of firearms. I have only noticed coyote howls once or twice. A neighbor told me that the noisy coyotes were all hunted down. The ones less likely to make noise survived.
No quiet coyotes here in Berrien Co. MI except when they are chasing down prey either solo or as a smallish pack of 2-3 which I
ve witnessed And they do pack up going after whitetail deer.
I was so upset with myself the other night letting my almost 16 y/o JRT out to potty one last time before bed. Let him out, shut the door coming back inside then went back to call him in about 5 min. later. That's when I heard the 'yotes howling in the woods very close. My bad for leaving him outside by himself. That won't happen again. I'll either insist that Pony, the Presa Canario, is out there with him or I am out with both of them armed with the Benelli loaded with slugs.
No venomous snakes where I live so I want each and every snake to live a long, happy life.
